Autism is described as a “spectrum” disorder because people with ASD have very different strengths, abilities, restrictions and type and severity of symptoms. ASD is found across all cultures and economic groups. a “spectrum” disorder because there is wide variation in the type and severity of symptoms people experience. ASD occurs in all ethnic, racial, and economic groups.
