About Insurance
Many insurance providers now cover both Registered Psychotherapists, and Registered Social Workers, however it is up to you to check your individual insurance policy to ensure coverage, and the amount that you are covered for before you begin sessions. If you see a therapist who is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), in order to make a claim for therapist services with a Registered Psychotherapist, you may also need to provide the name and the registration number of that therapist’s supervisor.
Direct Billing
At this time Integra Skills Counselling does not offer direct billing. The main reason is that most insurance companies only allow Psychologists to do direct billing.
The Difference, Billing-Wise Between Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers
Registered Social Workers are a part of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, which is a governing body that has been established for many years. The OCSWSSW has advocated and successfully been able to make counselling provided by Registered Social Workers a service that is not taxable (which means there is no HST added to the fee).
Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Psychotherapists Qualifying are a part of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), which is an organization that is less than 10 years old. The CRPO is still advocating and working with the government to turn psychotherapy into a not taxable service.. We hope it will happen soon, but at this point, HST must still be added to any bill for psychotherapy services.
Why Do Different Therapists Within A Clinic Charge Different Rates?
As with almost any profession, the longer a person works in a role, the more training and on-the-job experience they have gathered. Another factor in the fee structure is the type of specialized training a therapist has taken. Some educational training is very costly and can take years to complete. The rates connected with each therapist reflect their time working as a therapist as well as their specialized training.
