About Raeann Roopsingh
Hi, I’m Raeann,
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and I support individuals and families. I believe my role as a therapist is to help you or your loved ones in a way that feels supportive and collaborative. I may be a mental health professional, but you are the expert of your own life, I’m just here to offer a fresh perspective and different tools to help you or your child.
Raeann Uses The Following Modalities In Therapy
- CBT Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Play Therapy
- Narrative Therapy
- Person-centered therapy
- Mindfulness based mental health approaches
- Humanistic psychotherapy
My Journey Toward Becoming a Therapist
I’ve always been driven by a desire to help people realize their fullest potential. Growing up as an anxious child in a big, socially extroverted family, I spent a lot of time with my nose in a book or focused on art and baking. As I moved through high school and university, I began the intentional work of managing my own anxiety, and I realized then that I wanted to support others on that same path.
Before pursuing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology, I worked as an ABA therapist for children with Autism. Seeing the incredible motivation of those families and children to live their best lives opened my heart to working not just with adults, but also with families and young people. Today, I balance my professional life with my love for animals, music, and spending time with my husband, my dog, and my still very extroverted family!
My Approach to Our Work Together
Whether I’m working with a child, an adult, or a family, my goal is to meet you exactly where you are. I see myself as a guide in the passenger seat, you are the one driving the car, and I am here to support and encourage the changes you want to see.
I take an “eclectic” view of therapy, which means I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I’m trained in Narrative Therapy and am CBT and DBT informed, often blending these styles to create the best journey for you. When I work with children, I love integrating fun and play to help build a warm, welcoming space for them to connect with me in.
Lived Experience & Why I Believe in This Process
I am a firm believer in “practicing what you preach.” I have been in ongoing therapy for years, and it has been a foundational part of my life. It helps me manage my own anxiety, but it also makes me a better therapist because I understand exactly what it feels like to sit in the other chair. I know the courage it takes to show up.
As a woman of colour and a member of the BIPOC community, I am particularly passionate about helping individuals navigate the complexities of cultural identity. I understand the delicate balance of managing cultural expectations alongside social desires that might not always align. I believe everyone has the ability to overcome the hardships they endure, and I am here to help you rediscover just how resilient you are.
Trying Something New Is An Act of Courage
It’s truly courageous to try something that requires you to open up and discuss parts of your life that perhaps you’ve never shared before. Many never take those first steps to get that much needed help. The thing to remember, is that this is a process that you don’t have to rush into. I will meet you at the pace that you need. Please reach out if you’d like to start with a free consultation. Let’s talk, so you can see if my approach to therapy feels like the right therapist for you, your family or your child.
