About Me

Hi, I’m Lauren Mallon. I provide counselling for young people and adults ages 6 and older (and parents of children one-on-one if needed) to help with sports performance, ADHD, self-esteem, perfectionism, and anxiety. My approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive and empowering. I believe counselling works best when there is clarity around goals and a sense of trust and understanding on both sides. Having faced my own challenges in life when it comes to self-confidence, and performance pressure, I understand how important it is for a young person (or really a person of any age) to feel heard, supported, and understood. My goal is to help everyone I work with to build the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to thrive both in and out of any activities they may be engaging in.

My Journey From Competitive Dance to Studying Psychology

I grew up in Northern Ireland, surrounded by a loving family and a strong sense of community. I was encouraged to follow my interests including competitive Irish dance, where I competed at a championship level from the age of 3 to 17. While dance brought me joy, it also gave me first-hand experience with performance anxiety and the pressure to succeed, lessons that now help me connect with young people facing similar challenges in sports and school.

Throughout my teen and young adult years, I became more aware of the cultural and generational trauma that still lingered in Northern Ireland. I saw many people struggling silently, with very few speaking openly about their feelings or seeking help. That experience planted the seed for my passion in this field and showed me the importance of breaking the stigma and having conversations about mental health. I had a really wonderful class during my psychology undergrad at university that focused on counselling. The lecturer was really inspiring, and this class sparked a lot of interest and joy and something I was already feeling drawn towards. This began my path towards becoming a therapist.

It’s Important to “Walk the Talk” as a Therapist

I’ve been to therapy myself in the past, and it is something I plan to do throughout my life for ongoing personal growth. Even when I’m not facing major stressors, I find that therapy is a valuable way to deepen self-awareness, build confidence, explore my past, and stay grounded. It has helped me navigate change, improve relationships, live more authentically, and take care of myself so I can care for others.

What You Can Expect In Therapy

I believe therapy works best when it’s a choice, and a true partnership, so I encourage clients to be active participants in their own process. Sessions are paced according to their comfort level, with me offering guidance, gentle challenges, and practical tools along the way. So much time can be spent just wondering if now is the right time to make a change, or start therapy. Sometimes you just have to make the decision to give it a try and see if it works.

Remember: Ready is Not a Feeling, it’s a Decision

If you or your child have been considering therapy, I encourage you to reach out and connect. Right now I am accepting new clients and look forward to meeting you!
