Trauma Therapy In Ontario

Stressful or frightening events can cause trauma in a person, meaning that you have a lasting or recurring emotional response to a past traumatic event. Everyone experiences events differently. A person doesn’t have to be a soldier or a survivor of war to be impacted by traumatic events. When traumatic events happen in childhood, often they have a lasting impact. As an adult or during childhood, if you’ve experienced or witnessed violence, sudden loss, a severe accident, or even an extended ICU visit, and you were not able to get support to process that event, you may become traumatized from the experience.

More severe forms of trauma are post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (complex PTSD), and prolonged childhood trauma (when a child is exposed to abuse, witnesses harm to someone else, or lives in a traumatic environment).
