Hi, I’m Christy Doran,

I provide therapy for children, youth, adults and seniors. I am a Registered Psychotherapist Qualifying, with therapeutic art, play and recreational training. Before I became a therapist, I worked as an Art Teacher and Early Childhood Educator.

We are always changing as human beings, therapy can support you in feeling more secure to navigate life’s moments of discomfort with more calmness and confidence. Reaching out for support, for yourself or your child is one that shows courage, and that you’re open to growing and learning more.

‘The only constant in life is change’ is a statement that portrays how life and everything in it, is subject to transformation. If you or your child find change overwhelming, therapy can help you adapt and navigate feelings of discomfort with more calmness and confidence. I understand reaching out for support for yourself or a child is not always easy, and I honour your courage and welcome your first step.

Trying Something New Is An Act Of Courage

Making change is hard and it involves a risk into the unknown; it can be challenging and often takes time. Being brave means having the courage to be vulnerable; being willing to press-on in spite of fear or looking foolish. Being “Brave enough to try something new” could look like standing up for yourself or others, trusting others, loving deeper, practicing new skills, finding new hobbies or just taking the risk of being vulnerable and moving forward despite uncertainty.

As A Person – I Know What It Means To Make Big Life Changes

My path to becoming a therapist has not been straight, there have been many curves, hills and valleys along the way. I have relocated multiple times to both big cities and small towns. I have been married and divorced, experienced life as a young mother and single parenthood, and now have a blended family of eight.

Career wise, before I became a therapist, I spent quite a bit of time working in the educational system. I worked in a variety of roles, from being an Early Childhood Educator to an Educational Assistant, Child and Youth Worker, and an Art Teacher. It’s been quite the journey!

During my time in education, I have had the pleasure of working with children, teenagers, adults and families from a variety of cultural backgrounds. While I found my work in education fulfilling, I also witnessed firsthand the struggles that students with mental health issues go through in the school system.

It wasn’t just limited to the school environment either; these challenges extended into the community for students, adults and families alike. I recognized that accessing mental health support can make a world of difference in someone’s life. It may help you to grow and develop in all aspects, including, socially, emotionally, physically, or academically. And ultimately, it can empower you to reach your own personal goals. So, after some deep reflection, I made the decision to become a therapist.

Now, here I am, using my experience and knowledge to support individuals like you on your journey towards better mental health.

I Provide a Conversational, Collaborative & Creative Approach To Therapy

When it comes to therapy, I like to keep things real and relatable. When we work together in therapy, the focus is on you and what I can do to support your needs and goals. I believe in a person-centered approach, which means you’re at the center of our sessions. It’s about understanding your unique needs, finding practical solutions, and looking at the bigger picture.

Your therapy experience is one where you should feel welcome and comfortable, so you can be curious about whatever comes up in our conversations (or artistic creations). Therapy is a collaborative journey, and we will be in it together. As your therapist, we will work together to get you tackling the  changes you want to make, and finding a path forward that feels right for you.

If you’re ready to take this step towards positive change, I’m here to walk beside you, offering my expertise and unwavering support. Together, we’ll work towards unlocking your potential and achieving the fulfilling life you deserve.
